ABOUT PEARL
I got my first chance to use a camera when I was two. My dad is also a photographer and perhaps ill-advisedly handed his toddler a camera to see what I would do with it. I was immediately hooked and all I wanted was my own camera.
I started to seriously take photos on a professional level when I was about sixteen. It was about the same time when I started to study the overlap between photography and cinematography.
I continued down this path and attended the University of NC Wilmington and got my B.A in Film Studies. I spent my senior summer in Los Angeles, CA as a script intern at a major production studio known for their horror films. This was an amazing experience and I enjoyed UNCW so much that I stayed three more years in Wilmington to also attain my Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Filmmaking. My thesis film and passion project was an animal advocation, short documentary called “Sentient Souvenirs” that explores the atrocities of the hermit crab trade in beach town gift shops.
